The US bond market is on shaky ground as treasury secretary Janet Yellen announced the potential for an emergency bond buying program similar to that of the UK and Japan. If the bond market collapses the whole financial system will collapse. And remember, the bond market is much bigger than the stock market. Illiquidity in the bond market means nobody is buying treasuries, which are causing bond yields to surge. The Fed or the treasury is going to have to save this bond market or yields will continue to surge and something in the economy will break too hard, too fast.
